Changes to Kyiv's Transport Fares
As of March 13, 2023, the fare for Kyiv's circular railway line has increased. This price adjustment is linked to the implementation of a special commission fee, which took effect across Kyiv and the Kyiv region on March 11. The cost of a train ride has risen by 5 to 7 hryvnias.
According to the new tariff structure, passengers can still purchase a ticket for the old price of 15 hryvnias through the official Ukrzaliznytsia or Kyiv Digital apps. For those paying with a bank card via the orange validators on board, the fare will be 19 hryvnias and 19 kopiyok. Tickets bought at ticket offices or directly from the conductor on the train will cost 22 hryvnias.
Fares and Payment Methods
For passenger convenience, different fares have been set depending on the payment method. For example:
- A fare of 7 hryvnias applies when using cash registers in ticket offices and on suburban trains.
- Using a self-service software and hardware complex (SSHC) costs 6 hryvnias and 70 kopiyok.
- With an automated fare collection system, the price is 4 hryvnias and 20 kopiyok.
- Using mobile POS terminals with conductors on suburban trains costs 7 hryvnias.
It is also worth noting that starting March 14, 2023, the fare for minibus route No. 434 will be 20 hryvnias. These tariff changes are part of broader measures aimed at optimizing transportation in Kyiv and the surrounding region. These adjustments are common in cities modernizing their public transit networks to improve service and financial sustainability.
The rise in fares for Kyiv's trains and minibuses reflects local authorities' efforts to implement new tariffs designed to enhance the financial stability of the transport system.
The introduction of varied tariffs based on payment method also adds convenience for passengers and may encourage the use of cashless transactions. These changes could influence commuters' choices, potentially affecting overall passenger traffic volumes in the region.
