An overnight Russian assault on Kyiv and several other parts of Ukraine has caused heavy casualties and extensive damage. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has released updated figures on the injured and the destruction across the country.
Affected Areas and Aftermath
Other regions also suffered, including:
- Kharkiv
- Odesa Oblast
- Kyiv Oblast
- Poltava Oblast
In the Kyiv region, seven people were injured; in Kharkiv, 28; and in Odesa Oblast, two. Across Ukraine, the attacks damaged 180 structures, over 50 of which were residential buildings. More than 750 emergency workers from the State Emergency Service and nearly as many police officers have been deployed to manage the aftermath.
Additionally, in Kherson, Russian forces twice targeted a vehicle belonging to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs with FPV drones. At the time of the strike, the office’s head and eight other staff members were inside, but none were harmed. The overall interception rate for missiles and drones that night exceeded 93%, with Russia launching over 670 attack drones and 56 missiles.
“As of now, we know of five people killed in Kyiv from the overnight Russian attack. My condolences to their families and loved ones. Around 40 people were wounded in the capital. Another seven were injured in the Kyiv region. In Kharkiv, there are already 28 casualties. Two people were hurt in Odesa Oblast,” stated Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
The president also emphasized that "the Russians could not have been unaware of which vehicle they were attacking" and stressed the need for a just response to these strikes. "There will be a fair response for all these attacks. And we must pressure Moscow so that they feel the consequences of their terror," he added. Zelenskyy called for stronger sanctions against Russia, underscoring the importance of accountability for the war.
This attack is part of the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which continues to cause significant loss of life and destruction. Despite the high rate of interception of enemy missiles and drones, strikes on civilian infrastructure remain a serious threat to the safety of Ukrainians. The international community’s reaction—including calls for new sanctions against Russia—could prove decisive in shaping the next phase of the conflict and efforts to restore stability in the region.
The recent wave of strikes across Ukraine highlights the ongoing intensity of the conflict, as detailed in a report on the extensive damage caused in multiple regions. In particular, the situation in Dnipro and other areas has seen significant casualties, further emphasizing the severity of these attacks.
