China's Military Exercises Around Taiwan
The Chinese army has begun 10-hour live-fire drills in the waters and airspace around Taiwan. These maneuvers, taking place in five designated zones, have become the largest military exercises for China to date. They started on Monday and are called 'Mission Justice-2025'.
These exercises occurred against the backdrop of the US announcement of a record arms package for Taiwan worth $11.1 billion. This decision by Washington triggered a negative response from Beijing, which is revising its military doctrine, analyzing Russia's mistakes in the war against Ukraine.
Tensions in Relations Between Countries
These maneuvers mark the sixth major round of military exercises for China since 2022, indicating the continued tension in relations between China and Taiwan, as well as between China and the US. Beijing's military actions demonstrate a readiness to respond to any changes in military support for Taiwan from American allies.
These events underscore the growing tension in the region, caused not only by military exercises but also by increasing military aid to Taiwan from the US. China, in turn, continues to demonstrate its military might, which could lead to further escalation of conflict in the Asia-Pacific region. Observers note that actions such as the 'Mission Justice-2025' drills may signify a new phase in China's military strategy towards Taiwan and its ambition to strengthen its position in the region.
