China's Diplomatic Efforts

China has been trying to persuade Iran to reach an agreement with the USA through intermediaries as the deadline set by the USA for Iran expired on April 8. After the deadline passed at 03:00 Kyiv time, US President Donald Trump announced a two-week ceasefire. Iran, in turn, agreed to a ceasefire and partial opening of the Strait of Hormuz.

China, which is Iran's largest trading partner, has maintained contacts with Iran through intermediaries, including:

  • Pakistan
  • Turkey
  • Egypt

Pakistan offered to host the first direct negotiations between Iran and the USA in Islamabad, inviting representatives of both countries for talks on Friday, April 10. Israel also agreed to a temporary ceasefire in the context of reducing tensions.

Impact on the Global Economy

Against the backdrop of de-escalation of the conflict, global oil prices have sharply declined. China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning stated:

“All parties should show sincerity and quickly end this war, which should never have happened in the first place.”

These events indicate growing efforts from the international community to resolve the conflict and reduce tensions in the region.

This situation underscores the importance of diplomatic efforts in achieving a peaceful resolution to the conflict between Iran and the USA, as well as China's role as a mediator. The drop in oil prices indicates that the market is responding to reduced geopolitical tensions, which may positively affect the global economy. Direct negotiations between the parties may open new opportunities for stabilizing the region and restoring economic ties.

As the situation evolves, understanding the strategic implications of China's involvement is crucial. The recent mediation efforts highlight Beijing's growing influence in international relations, particularly in the context of the US-Iran conflict.
