China's condemnation of tariffs

China condemned the imposition of tariffs against countries that trade with Iran, emphasizing its negative stance on unilateral sanctions. A representative of the Chinese embassy in the US, Liu Pengyu, noted that there are no winners in tariff wars and trade wars, and coercion and pressure cannot solve problems. He also added that protectionism harms the interests of all parties.

US economic restrictions

US President Donald Trump announced the establishment of economic restrictions on countries that cooperate with Iran. Under the new rules, any country doing business with Tehran will be required to pay a 25% tariff on all types of commercial transactions with the United States. Trump also emphasized that tariffs are an important part of his ability to make peace agreements, adding that the United States will not deal with people who are fighting.

It is worth noting that the US has decided not to impose additional tariffs on the import of Chinese semiconductors at least until mid-2027. This decision may affect the economic relations between the US and China against the backdrop of escalating trade tensions.

In light of these events, the implementation of trade restrictions may lead to a shift in the geopolitical balance, as countries doing business with Iran may face pressure from the US. At the same time, China, as one of Iran's key trading partners, continues to defend its position against unilateral sanctions, which may lead to further deterioration of relations between Beijing and Washington. The US decision not to impose new tariffs on Chinese semiconductors may be an attempt to reduce tensions in bilateral relations; however, overall the situation remains complex and unpredictable.
