China Levels Criticism at the United States

Through its spokesperson, Lin Jian, China has criticized the United States, accusing it of undermining global nuclear order and strategic stability. Lin Jian stated that the U.S. employs double standards in nuclear non-proliferation matters, which he described as the primary obstacle to the international nuclear order.

He called on the United States to respond to the expectations of the international community and to resume strategic dialogue with Russia.

Heightening Tensions in Relations

Conversely, the United States has urged China and Russia to negotiate a new trilateral nuclear arms control treaty. Tensions between the U.S. and China are intensifying, partly due to U.S. preparations for a new arms package for Taiwan, which may include:

  • Patriot missile systems
  • NASAMS air defense systems

A planned state visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to China in April is set against this backdrop of rising tensions. The Chinese side believes the situation requires urgent discussion to prevent further escalation and to support global stability.

This situation underscores the complex relationships between major powers, which bear responsibility for global security.

The growing friction between the U.S. and China, particularly regarding Taiwan, could have serious implications for international stability. These mutual accusations over nuclear control and military programs highlight the critical need for open dialogue to avoid further escalation and ensure regional peace. This diplomatic friction occurs within a broader context of strategic competition between the world's two largest economies.
