Klitschko declined to participate in the presidential elections of World Boxing
Former heavyweight boxing champion Vladimir Klitschko announced on Instagram that he is currently not participating in the candidacy for the post of president of World Boxing. He made this statement after exchanging views with representatives of the organization.
It was previously reported that Klitschko had put forward his candidacy for the elections of the president of World Boxing. It was noted that the president of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan and the president of the Greek Boxing Federation would also be contenders for the leadership position.
«This decision is a proper recognition of the authority of the Ukrainian boxing school and our athletes who achieve victories on the world stage even in times of war,» the Ukrainian Boxing Federation stated.
It should be noted that the elections scheduled for November will be conducted under the supervision of an independent commission consisting of three experts, but they are not related to World Boxing. The organization has 125 member countries and was created in 2023 after the International Boxing Association's ban on conducting Olympic tournaments.
