Ukrainian Demining Capability Coalition Holds Meeting
At its 20th meeting in Reykjavik, the Ukrainian Demining Capability Coalition announced a €2 million contribution to its fund. Representatives from 23 nations attended the event, discussing ways to strengthen demining units, enhance cooperation with NATO, and improve training and auditing procedures.
Financial Commitments and Global Cooperation
The coalition has committed to providing at least €165 million by 2026 to supply Ukraine with the technical equipment required for demining operations. This effort is critical for making vast areas of agricultural and residential land safe again. In addition, Ukraine will receive over $80 million from partner nations specifically for humanitarian demining. The donors for humanitarian demining include:
- Belgium
- Italy
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Switzerland
- Sweden
Colonel Ruslan Berehulia noted that 'Ukraine is currently developing unique, practical experience in demining during a full-scale war, which is valuable for all partner nations.'
The meeting of the Ukrainian Demining Capability Coalition underscores the active international support and collaboration in addressing the war's aftermath. The mobilization of significant financial resources highlights the global recognition of the severity of the issue and the need for a systematic approach to resolve it. In turn, Ukraine is demonstrating its role not merely as a recipient of aid, but as an active contributor to international initiatives in this vital field, sharing hard-won expertise.
