Dismantling of the Ferris wheel at Kontraktova Square
The Ferris wheel at Kontraktova Square in Kyiv will be dismantled in the near future due to an emergency condition of the structure revealed during the prosecution's inspection. A statement regarding the dismantling was made to the Department of Territorial Control of the Kyiv City State Administration (KCSA). The owner of the attraction agreed to dismantle the structure on their own.
Reasons for dismantling and consequences
The height of the Ferris wheel is 43 meters. However, the structure relies on wooden beams that have rotted, causing concern. The Podil District Prosecutor's Office has already appealed to the court with a demand to stop the operation of the attraction due to the identified violations. It is worth noting that in October 2025, the wheel successfully passed a technical examination, but the control card for the wheel was canceled last year.
Moreover, due to the situation, heads of two departments of KCSA have been suspected of official negligence. Currently, negotiations are ongoing about a new location for the Ferris wheel, but details are not yet disclosed. The dismantling of the structure underscores the importance of ensuring safety at attractions in the city.
The dismantling of the Ferris wheel at Kontraktova Square highlights the need for control over the technical condition of entertainment attractions in Kyiv.
The identified deficiencies in the structure put the safety of visitors at risk, which in turn draws the attention of law enforcement agencies. Such incidents may prompt the strengthening of safety controls for attractions throughout the city, as well as inspections of other similar facilities. It is important that such measures contribute to the overall improvement of the safety of the entertainment infrastructure in the capital.
