Meteorologists Pinpoint Date for Ukraine's Cold Snap to Ease

Синоптики прогнозують, коли Україні слід очікувати на поліпшення погоди після холоду.

Forecasters Identify When Ukraine's Deep Freeze Will Begin to Subside

Meteorologist Natalia Ptukha indicates a slight easing of the severe frosts is possible after January 22, though temperatures will remain below freezing. This cold wave is part of a harsh winter affecting much of Eastern Europe. Nighttime temperatures in northern regions and the Vinnytsia area will stay between -12°C and -17°C, while in the Chernihiv and Sumy regions, they could still drop to -20°C.

Expected Warming and Its Potential Impact

Any significant warming is forecast only for southern regions and the Zakarpattia Oblast. According to Ptukha, temperatures above zero will be confined to these areas. Furthermore, forecasters warn of an atmospheric cyclone that will bring precipitation to Ukraine between January 25 and 27. While this system could alter weather patterns, frosty conditions are expected to remain dominant for now.

The anticipated moderation after January 22 could provide crucial relief for agriculture and other weather-sensitive sectors of the economy. Even without rising above zero, the change may reduce stress on vegetation and livestock that have endured the severe winter. The precipitation from the incoming cyclone could also affect soil conditions and moisture reserves, a key factor for farming. These shifts may have long-term implications for crop yields in Ukraine, a major global grain producer.
