In Ukraine, military personnel can receive a lifetime pension due to length of service regardless of age or after reaching 45 years with mixed service. The right to such payments is determined by Law No. 2262-XII, and the conditions depend on the length of service and insurance period. This is reported by the Main Department of the Pension Fund of Ukraine in the Kirovohrad region.
Lifetime pension for length of service in 2026 is available for several categories of law enforcement personnel
The right to a lifetime pension applies to military personnel, except for conscripts, as well as employees of various law enforcement and special structures.
This includes:
-
rank-and-file, sergeant, senior, and officer staff;
-
employees of the National Police and former internal affairs agencies;
-
employees of the State Bureau of Investigations (DBR) and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU);
-
representatives of the Judicial Protection Service;
-
employees of the tax police and the Bureau of Economic Security (BEB);
-
staff of the State Emergency Service, special communications, and the criminal-executive service.
The Pension Fund emphasizes that the procedure for assigning payments is regulated by Article 12 of the law “On Pension Provision for Persons Dismissed from Military Service”.
How many years of service are required for a military pension
In Ukraine, there are two main conditions for retirement due to length of service.
The first option is the so-called “pure” service length. In this case, a military personnel can apply for a pension regardless of age, if on the day of dismissal after October 1, 2020, they have at least 25 calendar years of service.
The second option is mixed service. It allows retiring after reaching 45 years of age with at least 25 years of insurance experience.
At least 12 years and 6 months of that service must consist of military service or service in equal structures.
The pension system for length of service for military personnel in Ukraine operates separately from the general pension legislation. It takes into account the specifics of service and the heightened risks for employees in the security sector.
For military and law enforcement personnel, this means the possibility of receiving lifetime pension security earlier than civilian employees if the requirements regarding experience and service duration are met.
It should be noted that in Ukraine, early retirement pensions are provided for certain categories of citizens.
