Ukrainian airports are preparing to resume operations after the closure of airspace due to Russian aggression. Acting head of the State Aviation Service of Ukraine Daniil Menshikov stated that preparations will take at least three months. Even those airports where the infrastructure has remained must undergo inspections before civil flights can begin.
"At least three months for preparation will definitely be needed for those airports where the infrastructure is preserved," emphasized Menshikov.
Conducting audits, inspections of infrastructure, personnel analysis, updating documents, and audits according to the requirements of the State Aviation Service is mandatory. The State Aviation Service also monitors airlines, certification, and inspections of aircraft.
Expectations from regional airports
The main departmental head explained that key airports already have recovery plans, but the situation is more complicated for regional ones. Their recovery will require more efforts due to funding and personnel issues even before the war.
"After victory, regional airports can become catalysts for the economic recovery of regions," emphasized Menshikov.
It is predicted that the passenger flow of Ukrainian airlines will increase by 40% in 2025 compared to 2024. Despite the war, Ukrainian airlines are increasing their volumes.
"Despite the war, Ukrainian airlines are not just surviving - they are increasing volumes," concluded Menshikov.
Ukrainian airports are preparing to resume operations after the closure of airspace, but this process will be lengthy and involve prolonged inspections.
