Prosecutors File Child Abuse Cases Against Ex-Caregiver and Official

Обвинувачення висунуті проти колишнього вихователя та посадовця у справах про жорстоке поводження з дітьми.

Cases of Child Cruelty Advance to Court

Prosecutors have sent a case to court concerning a 48-year-old former caregiver at a children's rehabilitation center in Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi. The woman is accused of torturing a child in December 2025. Following a conflict, she allegedly pulled a boy from a sofa, struck his head, and dragged him by his arms down a staircase. The child sustained numerous abrasions and bruises from the attack.

She was suspended from her duties during the pre-trial investigation but later resigned voluntarily. In a separate case in the capital, the head of a district Children's Services office has been notified of suspicion for official negligence. This negligence allowed a young boy to suffer prolonged and cruel abuse from his mother.

Investigation into Domestic Violence Completed

Police in Kyiv's Desnianskyi district have concluded a pre-trial investigation into a 36-year-old local resident. The woman is accused of committing severe domestic violence against her own child. An indictment has been forwarded to court under the procedural guidance of the Desnianska district prosecutor's office.

These cases highlight systemic failures in Ukraine's child protection framework. Such incidents of abuse, whether in institutions or homes, underscore the urgent need for:

  • stricter oversight of facilities responsible for child care and rehabilitation;
  • improved coordination between social services and law enforcement to prevent future tragedies.

The ongoing investigations into child cruelty cases reveal a troubling pattern of abuse within families and care facilities. In a related incident, a mother from Kyiv is facing trial for severely mistreating her son, including locking him in a toilet and beating him. This case further emphasizes the critical need for reform in child protection practices across the country. For more details on this alarming situation, read about the mother's trial for child abuse.
