Donald Trump’s Medical Condition Under Scrutiny

Health concerns surrounding Donald Trump, now 79 years old and serving as U.S. president, have prompted worry from former White House doctors. Over the past 13 months, Trump has made three medical visits, including a routine checkup in April 2025 and a CT scan in October of the same year. The White House has previously disclosed that the president suffers from chronic venous insufficiency, a condition that can lead to leg swelling.

On May 26 of this year, Trump is scheduled to see a doctor, likely for a dental exam at Walter Reed Medical Center. A red mark on his neck was attributed by the White House to preventive skin treatment. Dr. Jonathan Reiner, a former White House cardiologist, commented:

'Not everything is known about Donald Trump’s health.' - Jonathan Reiner

Jeffrey Kuhlman, who served as physician to Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, also weighed in, urging Trump to undergo cognitive testing. Additionally, Ukrainian pediatrician and medical sciences candidate Yevgeny Komarovsky stated that 'Trump’s behavior and symptoms are consistent with dementia.'

Public Perception

A poll conducted by the Washington Post, ABC News, and Ipsos found that:

  • 44% of Americans do not believe Trump is fit to lead the country;
  • 40% of respondents think he is capable of serving as president.

Trump has also been observed in public with a thick layer of foundation on his hand, which the White House explained as a way to conceal bruises from frequent handshakes. A small bruise on his hand was visible in photos taken during the signing of the government budget.

These developments have sparked concern among experts and the public about both the physical and mental condition of Donald Trump, who is the oldest person ever to hold the office of U.S. president. He will turn 80 on June 14.

The state of Donald Trump’s health is raising serious questions not only among medical professionals but also within American society. Given his age and existing medical issues, the question of his ability to fulfill presidential duties is becoming increasingly pressing. Poll results reveal a divided public opinion, which could shape the political landscape as elections approach. In this context, it is critical that the president’s health becomes a topic of open discussion to ensure transparency and public trust.

These health concerns have led to increased scrutiny of Trump's well-being, particularly following recent observations of visible bruises on his hands. Such physical signs may necessitate further medical evaluations, raising questions about his overall fitness for office amidst ongoing public debate.
