Sophia Rotaru's Rider Undergoes Major Changes
Ihor Kuryliv, the former concert director for Ukrainian singer Sophia Rotaru, disclosed in an interview with Glavkom how her rider evolved over time. Initially, Rotaru's requirements were modest, consisting only of simple fruits like grapes and oranges. However, after concert director Olha Konyakhina joined the team, the rider expanded to include expensive items, notably a bottle of Hennessy XO cognac valued at over 10,000 UAH—ordered specifically for Konyakhina herself.
Management Shifts and Conflicts
Kuryliv, who previously organized Rotaru's concert tours, said he received complaints from colleagues about Konyakhina's work quality.
“When I gradually stepped back, Konyakhina took over the tours. Then the calls started: ‘Oh, Ihor Volodymyrovych, it was such a pleasure working with you, but with her (Konyakhina) it’s impossible,’”he recalled.
Konyakhina, who is originally from Russia, added items to the rider that did not align with the artist's original demands.
“She sends them riders with Hennessy XO and gets drunk on it herself,”Kuryliv emphasized. After ceasing collaboration with Rotaru, he now rarely communicates with the singer. Kuryliv also serves as the director of the Veryovka Ukrainian Folk Choir, highlighting his active role in the cultural sector.
This situation underscores how professional relationships in concert management can make or break quality and teamwork. Shifts in management often spark criticism from peers, reflecting broader trends toward higher standards in the entertainment industry. At the same time, conflicts and misunderstandings between managers and artists can damage the reputations of both parties.
In light of the ongoing changes in Sophia Rotaru's management, it's important to reflect on the broader implications of leadership shifts in the entertainment industry. A recent incident involving her former director, who was sentenced to prison for misappropriating concert funds, reveals the potential pitfalls of mismanagement in this field.
