Former Minister Plachkov warned about attacks on energy: 80% of facilities damaged

Експерт попереджає про загрози енергетичній інфраструктурі: 80% об'єктів зазнали шкоди.

Assessment of Damage to Ukraine's Energy Infrastructure

Former Minister of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine Ivan Plachkov assessed the extent of damage to the country's energy infrastructure as a result of Russian attacks. In his interview with the publication Glavkom, he noted that, in his opinion, at least 80% of the electricity sector has been damaged. Plachkov stated that strikes were made both on thermal power plants and on hydroelectric power stations, as well as on transmission and distribution networks.

Consequences of Attacks and Recommendations

Ivan Plachkov also reminded of his warning made in November 2025 when he urged preparations for massive strikes on heating supply complexes. He emphasized that even then it was clear that there was a need to consider options for evacuating children to acquaintances and relatives, as the situation could escalate. Plachkov drew attention to the consequences of the attack that occurred on January 24, 2026, when the Desnyansky district of Kyiv found itself in the epicenter of a communal catastrophe. The most difficult situation was recorded in Troieshchyna.

The main goal of the enemy is to achieve a total blackout in Ukraine and to destroy centralized heating supply systems in large cities, especially during the winter period with sub-zero temperatures. Ivan Plachkov

The assessments made by Ivan Plachkov reflect the seriousness of the situation in Ukraine's energy sector, which is under constant pressure from external aggressors. Extensive damage to the energy infrastructure may lead to social and economic consequences, especially in winter when the demand for heating increases. It is important not only to restore damaged facilities but also to prepare the population for possible emergencies, which may include:

  • evacuation
  • provision of alternative heating sources
