Former law enforcement officer from Poltava region to stand trial for fatal traffic accident

The preliminary investigation against the former law enforcement officer, whose fault led to a fatal traffic accident in the village of Machuhi in the Poltava region, has been completed. This was reported by 'Glavkom' citing the State Bureau of Investigations (SBI).


According to the investigation's information, on May 2, 2025, the law enforcement officer was driving a service vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Violating traffic rules, he provoked a collision with a passenger car. This accident resulted in the death of two passengers in the service vehicle - his colleague and a serviceman. Two more people, including the driver, sustained serious bodily injuries.



After this tragedy, the law enforcement officer was dismissed from his position. He has been charged under Part 4 of Article 286-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine - violation of traffic safety rules while in a state of alcohol intoxication, leading to the death of several persons. The maximum penalty under this article is up to 12 years of imprisonment. At present, the indictment has been submitted to the court.
