Maksym Oseredchuk Killed in Action

Maksym Oseredchuk, a 30-year-old former producer, fixer, and driver for ABC News, was killed on the frontline in Ukraine on June 24. He served with the 34th Separate Marine Brigade and died in the evening from a Russian drone attack. He is survived by his wife Kateryna and daughter Mariia.

Born on November 4, 1995, in the city of Vuhledar in Donetsk Oblast, Maksym Oseredchuk hailed from a town that has been almost completely destroyed and occupied by Russia since early 2023, resulting in the destruction of the Oseredchuk family apartment. He earned a master's degree in business economics from Vinnytsia University and worked for several years as a logistics manager after graduation.

Life and Career

Following Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Maksym began working with ABC News in Kyiv. He also collaborated with The New York Times as a driver and fixer. ABC journalist David Muir shared this remembrance of Maksym:

'He was a friend and colleague to those covering events in Ukraine. He drove many of us across the country to the front line, always looking out for our safety. He always had a smile. We remember his sharp wit, calling him one of the truly great people in this life.' - David Muir

Maksym Oseredchuk was the son of Oleksandr, who also works as a driver for international media outlets. His death is a profound loss for his family and colleagues. On the same day, 25-year-old Lithuanian volunteer Ignas Kailius, who had served in the Ukrainian Armed Forces as an assistant grenadier since February 2026, was also killed while on a combat mission. Ignas completed his last combat assignment on June 2, 2026.

The situation on the frontlines in Ukraine remains tense, with military and civilian casualties continuing to cause deep concern. The death of Maksym Oseredchuk highlights the dangers faced not only by soldiers but also by civilians working to support media operations amid the conflict. During this difficult time, it is important to remember those who risk their lives to report the truth and ensure the safety of others.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has claimed numerous lives, with many brave individuals making the ultimate sacrifice.
