A resident of Kherson region found himself in captivity for participating on the side of the Russian Federation

Pavel Pshenychny, who was once a Ukrainian serviceman, was captured due to his involvement in Russian aggression. He shared his story in an interview with Hromadske.

At the beginning of the occupation, Dagestanis came to my house. They took my certificates as a participant in combat operations and two medals. They came every month for a search, invading my private life

Pshenychny tried to leave the occupied territory with his wife but was detained at the border due to the lack of Russian documents for the child. Other attempts also proved unsuccessful.

Imprisonment and escape

In 2025, Pshenychny received 12 years of imprisonment. After the court, he was brought home, photographed, and warned about the travel ban. A few days later, he was sent to sign documents at the 'military enlistment office', and then he was sent to the front.

I was held captive by former prisoners who forced me to go without water. Then they sent me to fight on the side of the Russian Federation, where I was captured by the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Thus, Pshenychny found himself in captivity due to his military past and the dangerous circumstances that exist for Ukrainians in occupied territories.
