Koval's Move to Chornomorets Finalized

Former Dynamo Kyiv goalkeeper Maxim Koval has reached a preliminary agreement to join Odesa-based club Chornomorets. According to reports from Hlavkom, citing TaToTake, the contract with the club is set for one year. This marks a significant return for the player to the Ukrainian Premier League.

Koval's Career Path

Maxim Koval has not played football in Ukraine since the 2017/18 season. In July 2019, his transfer was secured by Saudi Arabian club Al-Fateh. Following that, the goalkeeper played for Moldovan side Sheriff, as well as the Greek clubs Aris and Kalamata. In January 2026, Koval left the club Yelimai as a free agent, having made 37 appearances for them, conceding 40 goals and keeping 11 clean sheets. After departing Yelimai, he trained with Sheriff in Tiraspol.

Chornomorets currently holds third place in the Ukrainian First League, with 38 points from 18 matches. The Odesa club trails Livyi Bereh by just a single point, while the gap to Bukovyna is 10 points. In the second half of March, Chornomorets will host the YUKSA team in Odesa. Koval brings considerable experience, having played 107 matches for Dynamo Kyiv and participated in two friendly matches for the Ukrainian national team.

Koval's return to Ukrainian football could be a pivotal addition for Chornomorets as they aim to strengthen their promotion push. His extensive experience, including stints with international clubs, could prove invaluable for the team's younger players. With the club performing well this season, the new goalkeeper may provide greater defensive stability, which is crucial in their battle for a top position in the league.
