Detention of Ruslan Demchak
On January 3, 2026, former People's Deputy of Ukraine Ruslan Demchak was detained in Germany. This arrest took place at the request of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Demchak was on the international wanted list on suspicion of aiding in stock market manipulation and laundering proceeds from criminal activities.
Ruslan Demchak, who served as a People's Deputy of Ukraine of the VIII convocation, is suspected of receiving artificial investment profits of more than 20 million hryvnias in 2017. He was notified of the suspicion back in August 2023. In October 2024, the court selected a preventive measure in the form of detention. Subsequently, in October 2025, the court granted permission for a special pre-trial investigation. Currently, the pre-trial investigation has been completed, and the materials are already open to the defense.
