Charge Against Oleg Voloshin
Investigators of the Main Investigative Department of the State Bureau of Investigations announced charges against former Ukrainian MP Oleg Voloshin for committing criminal offenses, including treason. Voloshin, who represented the banned political party OPZZh, has become a subject of investigation due to actions that may be classified as crimes against the state.
The charges announced against Oleg Voloshin relate to the commission of criminal offenses provided for by:
- Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason);
- Article 366-3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (intentional non-filing of a declaration).
It is important to note that after the onset of the full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, Voloshin was on the territory of the Russian Federation, which further complicates the situation.
Legal Consequences and Investigation
Currently, the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved. If Oleg Voloshin's guilt is proven, he faces punishment in the form of life imprisonment with property confiscation. The pre-trial investigation concerning the former MP was completed in May 2023, and further legal procedures are currently ongoing.
This case is part of a broader process of legal actions against individuals suspected of collaborating with the aggressor or committing crimes against Ukraine during the war. Under the conditions of ongoing military aggression, the importance of such investigations increases, as they may affect the reputation of political parties and their members. A verdict in the Voloshin case could set a precedent in the fight against treason in Ukraine.
