Crisis Within the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade

Stanislav Luchanov, the commanding officer of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, has left his duty station without permission. Law enforcement authorities are currently working to determine his whereabouts. Meanwhile, soldiers from the same brigade who have been implicated in the abduction of two civilians in the Kyiv region have been suspended from their official duties.

According to reports, during the night of June 27–28, seven individuals broke into the property of two brothers in the Kyiv region and forcibly removed them. In connection with this incident, police have detained nine members of the 155th Brigade on suspicion of kidnapping. Among those arrested is also a battalion commander from the 155th Brigade.

Law Enforcement Response

Luchanov took command of the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade in February 2026, having previously served as chief of staff for the 425th 'Skelya' Regiment. Officials from the Northern Operational Command have stated that 'individuals involved in the investigation have been relieved of their duties and are cooperating with investigators.'

Additionally, the Pechersk District Court in Kyiv has ordered a military serviceman suspected of assaulting colleagues in the Kharkiv region to be held in custody until September 7, 2026, without the possibility of bail. Further details that can be disclosed without compromising the investigation will be provided by law enforcement agencies.

This unfolding situation highlights significant disciplinary and leadership challenges within Ukraine's military structures, which could undermine both public trust and operational effectiveness. The suspension of troops and the kidnapping allegations against the 155th Brigade raise serious questions about accountability in military units, especially during a time of ongoing conflict. Future investigations may reveal additional details that could further impact the brigade's standing and overall military discipline in the country.

The recent developments within Ukraine's military have raised serious concerns about discipline and leadership. In a related case, a court has mandated the pretrial detention of a serviceman from the 'Skelya' Regiment, accused of assaulting fellow soldiers. This situation mirrors the challenges faced by the 155th Brigade and underscores the urgent need for accountability in the armed forces.
