Incident in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka

Alexander Pivnenko, the Commander of Ukraine's National Guard, visited Petropavlivska Borshchahivka to confirm that National Guard personnel were present in a private residence after having left their units without authorization. Four of these soldiers required hospitalization. A formal investigation into the incident is underway, with Pivnenko personally overseeing the inquiry.

This event arose amid social media rumors claiming that around 40 individuals were being unlawfully detained in the house's basement and that one person had died. Local residents gathered outside the property demanding access. Pivnenko clarified that these reports of illegal detainment and death are false. Medical staff and police representatives were permitted to enter the premises to verify the situation.

Soldiers’ Conduct and Command Response

Pivnenko emphasized that 18 additional soldiers remained inside the house and maintained contact with their families by phone. He also assured that none of the servicemen were forced to stay inside. The conduct of the unit commander and medical personnel at the site will be thoroughly reviewed.

“If it is found that National Guard soldiers breached regulations, those responsible will face disciplinary action,” he stressed.

The building served as a temporary location for mobilized troops, where documents were processed and checks conducted before deployment to a training center. Pivnenko highlighted the urgent need to relocate this facility due to the risk of missile strikes, warning that "a Russian missile could now target this building." To enhance security, soldiers’ phones were confiscated since the large number of devices could enable the enemy to pinpoint the location.

Officials from the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv Oblast and National Guard leadership arrived on-site to clarify the circumstances. Pivnenko urged local residents to avoid escalating tensions, refrain from breaking doors, and not attempt to forcibly enter the military site.

“Our servicemen defending Ukraine are invaluable. Any mistreatment toward them is unacceptable,” he added in response to the situation.

This episode highlights the ongoing challenges Ukraine faces amid continual threats from Russia. Ensuring the safety of both military personnel and civilians remains critical, as incidents like this can provoke fear and erode public trust. Prompt, transparent investigations are essential to maintaining confidence in Ukraine’s armed forces and preventing local conflicts from intensifying.

In light of the recent events in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka, it's crucial to address the claims surrounding the alleged hostage situation. The local police have officially denied any illegal detentions, providing further context to the ongoing investigation led by Commander Pivnenko. This clarification may help alleviate tensions among residents who gathered outside the property amid fears and rumors.
