Appointment of the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation: questions from Ukrainian parliamentarians
The specialized committee of the Verkhovna Rada is concerned about the decision to appoint a new head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation and awaits official explanations from Sergey Koretsky. According to the opinion of the people's deputies, this candidacy did not become the subject of a full-fledged preliminary discussion in parliament. In this regard, the committee sent a letter to the Prime Minister of Ukraine demanding clarification on why the appointment was made without coordination with the specialized committee. It is worth noting for the Russian-speaking audience that digitalization remains one of the key areas of work for the Ukrainian government, and interaction with the EU in this field is actively developing.
Digitalization as a priority and the EU's position
The statement of the committee on digital transformation emphasizes the need to maintain continuity and continue the large-scale implementation of digital technologies in the country. Special attention is proposed to be paid to such areas as:
- Defence technologies (Defence Tech),
- Anti-corruption digital services,
- Integration into the European technological space.
“Recently, a number of significant transformations for the country have been launched and carried out in the Ministry of Digital Transformation. At the same time, the question remains: will it be possible to continue such large-scale work and ensure the continuity of digitalization, primarily in such areas as defence technologies (Defence Tech), anti-corruption digital services, and entry into the European technological space,” the committee emphasized.
The deputies also supported the invitation to Minister Oksana Ferchuk to the committee meeting, where she is expected to present an action plan and answer questions from the elected representatives. This underscores the importance of an open dialogue on issues of digitalization and technological development in Ukraine.
Meanwhile, Ukraine received another tranche from the European Union in the amount of €3.47 billion under the Ukraine Support Loan program. The total funding volume under this program is €45 billion. Earlier, the EU had already transferred €3.9 billion to Ukraine for support of the army and the defense sector — this was the first tranche of defense assistance under the new financial mechanism of the Ukraine Support Loan.
