Protest Against Same-Sex Relationships Forces Cancellation of Melovin Concert in Rivne

Акція протесту проти одностатевих відносин призвела до скасування концерту Меловіна у Рівному.

Melovin's Rivne Performance Called Off

A concert by singer Melovin, scheduled for February 17 at the Rivne City Palace of Culture 'Tekstylnyk', was cancelled. The cancellation followed a confrontation with a group protesting against same-sex relationships, who carried signs with slogans such as 'No to gay marriage' and 'Heroes are fighting'. Officially, the event's cancellation was attributed to technical reasons. This incident highlights ongoing social tensions in Ukraine regarding LGBTQ+ rights.

The palace director, Anatolii Chuhuiievets, commented on the situation, stating that the organizers' security team left the premises upon the protesters' arrival.

"A concert was supposed to take place. A corresponding agreement was signed. A group of people arrived, shouting slogans. The organizers' security left the building. Then the police arrived to talk to those present. There is nothing particularly heated," said Chuhuiievets.

Law Enforcement Response

Police responded promptly to the scene. Maria Iustytska, a spokeswoman for the National Police in the Rivne region, reported that while processing the incident, no clashes or other significant breaches of public order were recorded. The crowd began to disperse around 8:30 PM.

It is worth noting that just three days prior to the scheduled concert, on February 14, Melovin, whose real name is Kostiantyn Bocharov, announced the end of his engagement to paramedic Petro Zlotei. The singer has also suggested he will end his career in 2027. The event organizers have not yet made a decision regarding a potential rescheduling of the concert.

The cancellation of Melovin's concert in Rivne reflects the existing tensions in Ukrainian society concerning LGBTQ+ rights. The protests that occurred during the planned event point to the activation of social movements and conflicts related to this topic. At the same time, the absence of clashes during the protest may indicate a degree of stability in the region. Observing the organizers' next steps and public reaction to such events remains important.
