US Congressman on Operation in Venezuela: It's Blood for Oil

Американський конгресмен про військову операцію у Венесуелі: це війна за нафту.

Criticism of the US Military Operation in Venezuela

US Congressman Jake Auchincloss has expressed criticism of the US military operation in Venezuela, believing that the true motives of this action are related to control over energy resources. According to him, this is not a fight against drugs, but

'blood for oil'
. Auchincloss emphasized that Venezuela has the largest proven oil reserves in the world, which, in his opinion, has become the main reason for military actions.

Detention of Nicolás Maduro

As part of this operation, the President of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, who has been in office since March 5, 2013, was detained. He defeated Henrique Capriles in the general elections on April 14, 2013. Donald Trump, the President of the United States, confirmed that Maduro, along with his wife, was captured and taken out of the country as part of a joint operation with American law enforcement.

The energy sector of Venezuela is controlled by the state-owned company Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA). Despite Venezuela's global leadership in oil reserves, production has significantly decreased due to international sanctions. The only American company operating under a special license in the country is Chevron. Until recently, China remained the main buyer of Venezuelan oil.

The situation with the military operation in Venezuela highlights the growing tension between the US and Latin American countries, where control over natural resources often becomes the subject of international conflicts. The detention of Nicolás Maduro could have far-reaching consequences for the political situation in the region, raising concerns about external interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states. At the same time, the reduction of oil production in Venezuela due to sanctions reflects the challenges facing the global energy sector, which may impact global energy markets.
