How Ukrainian defenders hold the northern part of Pokrovsk: situation at the front

Боротьба українських захисників за контроль над північною частиною Покровська: актуальний стан на фронті.

Situation in Pokrovsk: course of military operations

The tense situation continues at the front in the Donetsk region. Despite this, Ukrainian military forces continue to control the northern part of the city of Pokrovsk. The defense in the area of the settlements of Nikiforivka and Bondarne is ensured by the operational-tactical grouping of troops 'East', holding back the enemy's assault actions in this direction. According to the latest reports, 35 attacks by the aggressor were repelled in the areas of the following settlements over the past day:

  • Novomykolaivka
  • Rodynske
  • Novyi Donbass
  • Pokrovsk
  • Udaichne
  • Kotlyne
  • Molodetske
  • Filiia
  • Hryshyne

Fighting continues in the northern areas of Pokrovsk, which remain under the control of Ukrainian units, on certain sections. As reported by the 'East' grouping:

'Ukrainian units maintain control over the northern part of Pokrovsk. Search-and-assault operations and elimination of the enemy in urban development are underway. The enemy uses infantry assault groups with the support of unmanned systems. Combat engagements continue on certain sections in the northern part of the city. Systematic fire damage is being inflicted on enemy units trying to accumulate in the southern part of the city.'

Strategic importance of the defense

The successful defense by Ukrainian forces in northern Pokrovsk demonstrates their ability to withstand the numerical superiority of the enemy. This is crucial for the stability of the entire front line in the Donetsk region. Retaining such key settlements allows for maintaining the initiative and restraining further escalation. It is important for the Russian-speaking audience to understand that Pokrovsk (formerly Krasnoarmiysk) has long been an important industrial and transport hub in the region.

Despite active military operations, Russian troops have not yet fully captured Pokrovsk, although attempts have been ongoing for almost two years. According to available data, more than 150,000 servicemen have been involved in attacks on this city. At the same time, the Russian side has extended the timelines for capturing the entire Donbas, now setting the goal for April 2026 and declaring the need to occupy the remaining 21% of the territory. Ukraine's defense forces have denied information about the complete occupation of Orekhovo-Vasylivka in the Donetsk region, reaffirming their control over critically important sections of the front.
