A separate, recent prisoner swap resulted in the liberation of a large group of Ukrainians, including both military personnel and civilians. The majority had been held since 2022. These operations are a key component of ongoing humanitarian efforts during the war. Among those freed were soldiers from:
- The National Guard
- The State Border Guard Service
- The Armed Forces
- Territorial Defense units
- Air assault, motorized rifle, and mechanized brigades
The group included 28 officers, also captured in 2022. The oldest released serviceman is 63 years old, while the youngest is 21.
“I hope that after this exchange, thanks to the work the Coordination Headquarters team will carry out, we will manage to find those who are still considered missing in captivity.”
Petro Yatsenko
These developments underscore the critical need to continue prisoner exchanges and the search for service members whose status remains unknown. Despite the challenging circumstances, the persistent efforts of the Coordination Headquarters are yielding results, providing crucial answers to the families of missing military and civilian personnel. Such exchange operations remain vital for upholding principles of justice and humanity amidst the ongoing conflict.
