Kostiantynivka: The Current Situation
Contrary to statements made by Vladimir Putin, the city of Kostiantynivka in the Donetsk region is still held by Ukraine’s defense forces. Major Andriy Kovalov, spokesperson for the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, told Lb.ua that the Russian leader’s assertion is false. He confirmed that military units and subunits of the 19th Army Corps of the 'East' Operational Command continue to carry out defensive operations within the city and on its outskirts.
Kovalov added that Ukrainian forces are conducting counter-sabotage operations in the city, aimed at detecting and eliminating enemy infiltrators. He also reported that on July 3, Russian troops launched 11 assault attempts in this sector—none of which succeeded.
'On July 3, the enemy carried out 11 assault actions in this direction, achieving no success. Meanwhile, the adversary, not for the first time, has resorted to spreading outright disinformation and fakes through its highest-ranking officials.' Andriy Kovalov
The reported situation is corroborated by the 'Dzvon' automated command system and the DELTA situational awareness platform. According to the data, Russian forces are trying to infiltrate deep into Ukrainian defensive positions in small groups of one to three soldiers. At the same time, monitoring group DeepState indicates that the front line lies several kilometers from Kostiantynivka. Russian troops are also conducting offensive operations near the settlements of Ivanopillia, Illinivka, and Rusyn Yar.
Why This Matters
Kostiantynivka’s defense is critical for the broader Donetsk region, as the city sits along a strategically important section of the front line. Successfully holding this location helps maintain control over key supply routes and communication lines.
The spread of false claims by Russian officials underscores the ongoing information war that accompanies the military conflict, highlighting the need for reliable sources of news in such a volatile environment.
As the situation in Kostiantynivka evolves, it is essential to understand the broader implications of troop movements and defensive strategies in the region.
