The Russian Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat) has decided to cease the publication of mortality data in the country. This decision may be related to the government's attempt to hide the actual losses from the war in Ukraine. This information was spread by experts from the Institute for the Study of War (ISW), according to the publication 'Glavkom'.

According to the Russian publication 'Meduza', Rosstat did not publish demographic data in the report 'Social and Economic Situation in Russia' for January-May 2025. Statistics researcher Dmitry Kobak also reported that Rosstat refused to provide data on excess mortality and monthly mortality for 2024.

Previously, experts had already noted attempts by Rosstat to silence demographic problems and military affairs in the country. The exclusion of this data from reports may be aimed at concealing the losses of Russian troops in the war with Ukraine.

It is also worth noting that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine confirmed the losses of Russian occupiers as of July 7, 2025, which amount to approximately 11,027,540 people.

Furthermore, in the Moscow region, in the city of Krasnozavodsk, a series of explosions occurred. Local residents report drone attacks and explosions in the city.

The ultimate nature of Rosstat's actions may indicate serious problems in Russia, related both to the health of the population and to losses in the annexed Crimea and eastern Ukraine.
