The Kremlin has dismissed the idea of an Easter truce, questioning the substance of Ukraine's proposal. On March 30, Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Ukraine's readiness for a ceasefire during the Easter holiday period. However, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that Zelenskyy must take responsibility and make concrete decisions to move toward a lasting peace, not just a temporary halt in fighting. Peskov remarked:

A report from the Institute for the Study of War notes that while Ukraine shows a willingness to negotiate, Russia demonstrates no interest in a ceasefire. The analysis specifically states that 'Zelenskyy continues to make concessions and demonstrate Ukraine's readiness for diplomatic dialogue and commitments to an unconditional ceasefire, whereas the Russian Federation continues to demonstrate that it is not interested in a ceasefire or in good-faith negotiations to end the war.' Grigory Karasin, head of the Russian Federation Council's Committee on International Affairs, also commented on Zelenskyy's words, stating they 'should not be taken seriously.'
