Refat Chubarov Raises Alarm Over Military Activity in Crimea

Refat Chubarov, head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people, has voiced serious concerns about an anticipated escalation in missile and drone attacks between Russia and Ukraine. In a statement posted on his Facebook page, he emphasized that occupied Crimea remains a top priority target for Ukraine's Armed Forces. Starting May 26 and for the following week, Chubarov urged civilians in Crimea to relocate as far as possible from Russian military installations.

Notably, on May 25, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova reported strikes on Kyiv. During a phone call with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced the initiation of systematic strikes against targets in the capital. These events unfolded against the backdrop of a massive combined assault on Kyiv that occurred overnight on May 24.

'Occupied Crimea, due to its high concentration of Russian military facilities, is a territory that is a priority for strikes by the Armed Forces of Ukraine.' Refat Chubarov

Chubarov also highlighted the dangerous situation for civilians living near Russian military bases: 'My advice to all our people in Crimea, who unfortunately have Russian barbarians stationed near their homes: for your own safety, starting May 26 and for a week, move as far away as possible from the locations of Russian occupiers' military installations.'

Escalating Conflict Raises Stakes in the Region

Moscow’s statements and the reaction from Russian diplomacy signal a complete loss of rationality within the Kremlin leadership. At the same time, the liberation of Crimea remains an inevitable process. EU embassies have labeled the Kremlin’s threats as a masterpiece of hypocrisy.

This situation underscores the intensifying military conflict between Ukraine and Russia, which could create new humanitarian challenges for civilians, particularly in occupied Crimea. Chubarov’s remarks highlight the critical need for civilian safety amid warfare and strategic strikes that may impact the region. Meanwhile, the international community continues to monitor developments closely, as they could have serious repercussions for regional stability.

As tensions escalate, the urgency for civilians to prioritize their safety becomes increasingly critical. Similar warnings have been issued regarding the potential for destruction in major cities, including Kyiv.
