Critical infrastructure has been granted the right to purchase EW: how the new protection works

Оборонна інфраструктура отримала можливість придбати електронну боротьбу: як функціонує новий механізм захисту

Experimental project for the purchase of EW in Ukraine

In Ukraine, an experimental project has started that allows critical infrastructure enterprises to purchase electronic warfare (EW) means to protect against air attacks. This innovation applies to energy and defense-industrial complex facilities, which is particularly important in the context of armed conflict.

Now enterprises can independently purchase EW to enhance the security level of their facilities. The first participants in the project have already acquired and installed equipment designed to protect against Russian drones and missiles. It is important to note that civilian employees are not allowed to directly operate powerful EW systems. To strengthen the protection of the facility, the company must contact the Main Directorate of Electronic Warfare and Cyber Defense of the Armed Forces, where military personnel assess the level of threats and recommend types of equipment.

Process of integrating EW

The purchase of equipment is carried out at the expense of the enterprise, which can buy or import the recommended equipment. After that, the owner concludes a contract for free use with the military unit. It is worth noting that the equipment becomes 'tied' to a specific geolocation and cannot be moved arbitrarily.

The process of integrating EW into critical infrastructure enterprises includes several stages:

  • request
  • analysis
  • procurement
  • transfer to management
  • direct integration into the protection system

This approach aims to ensure an adequate level of protection for strategically important facilities from potential threats.

The introduction of this project emphasizes the importance of security for critical infrastructure in the ongoing armed conflict in Ukraine. Given the threats from air attacks, enterprises are given the opportunity to respond quickly to emerging challenges and ensure the protection of their facilities. The integration of electronic warfare means also reflects the state's efforts to support national security and defense. This is a joint effort between civilian enterprises and military structures aimed at increasing the country's defense capability.
