Critical situation with electricity in Kyiv
Energy workers explained the reasons for emergency shutdowns. DTEK reported a critical situation with electricity supply in Kyiv after shelling that damaged important power generation and transmission facilities. As of January 10, 2023, it is impossible to return to planned electricity supply schedules. Energy workers are forced to implement emergency outages to ensure system stability.
Reasons for emergency shutdowns
On January 9, 2023, Russian occupiers carried out a combined missile-drone strike on Kyiv. This attack was one of the factors that complicated the electricity supply situation. At the same time, severe frosts led to a sharp increase in electricity consumption for heating, which further strained the situation.
Problems with electricity supply are also caused by:
- icing of lines;
- falling trees;
- snow drifts.
These factors complicate the work of energy companies. In light of these circumstances, energy workers urge the population to understand and be patient during power outages.
For inquiries regarding electricity supply, residents can call hotlines: Yasno at (044) 277 1818, (067) 277 1818, (066) 277 1818, (093) 277 1818; as well as DTEK at 0800501588 or 1588.
The situation with electricity supply in Kyiv is the result of a combination of military actions and unfavorable weather conditions. Emergency power outages implemented by energy workers are aimed at ensuring the stability of the energy system under conditions where electricity consumption has sharply increased. This underscores the importance of supporting energy infrastructure and the readiness of the population for possible difficulties, especially during the winter period.
