Kryvyi Rih Without Heat Since November: What Has Broken in Ukraine's Utility System
The situation with utility infrastructure in Ukraine is critical, especially in Kryvyi Rih, where 400,000 residents have been without stable heat since November 17, 2024. Problems in the heating system arose due to the shutdown of 9 boiler houses, which ceased operations due to a lack of electricity. Additionally, 70 kilometers of heating mains have not been replaced by 'Naftogaz,' complicating the situation.
Problems with public services are also observed in other regions of Ukraine. In the Poltava region, 'Poltavavodokanal' was removed from the list of critical infrastructure, raising concerns among residents. In Lviv, hospitals were not included in the list of critical facilities, which could threaten public health in cold weather conditions. Apartments in Sumy are suffering from temperature drops to 12-14 degrees, while in Kherson, electricity is absent for 16 hours a day.
Expert Assessments of the Situation
Experts point out that the situation in the regions ranges from critical to absurd. The mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi, explains the problems with the state of pipes that were installed as far back as 1905, highlighting the need for urgent reforms in the utility sector. The situation requires immediate resolution to ensure the stability of heating supply and other vital services for the population.
Problems with heating supply in Kryvyi Rih and other cities of Ukraine reflect the overall state of the utility infrastructure in the country. In cold weather conditions, the lack of stable heat and electricity supply can have serious consequences for public health and social stability. Experts emphasize the need to reform the utility system to avoid similar crises in the future.
