The political crisis in the Verkhovna Rada has not been resolved, despite the passage of some laws. The situation appears to be a temporary compromise rather than a full resolution. This was stated by Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
According to him, there have been many speculations surrounding the parliament, but the real picture is much simpler and less sensational.
Parliamentary crisis in Ukraine: what really happened in the Rada
During the plenary week, votes were held selectively, only for those draft laws that had support.
Key facts include:
- votes were collected within the faction of the “Servant of the People” and partially among other groups
- only compromise draft laws were brought to a vote
- some initiatives did not even make it to the agenda due to lack of support
Zheleznyak emphasized that the popular versions about “bribing deputies” or agreements regarding anti-corruption cases are not true.
«There is no single answer here… a lot of conspiracy theories», he explained.
Financing Ukraine and laws: what is the real result of the voting
By the end of the week, the parliament adopted only part of the necessary decisions, and the effect of these is limited.
Main results include:
- one law within the IMF requirements was fully adopted
- several laws within the Ukraine Facility were adopted with compromises
- some initiatives failed or were sent for revision
It is expected that the adopted decisions will unlock about 1.1 billion euros in aid, but this does not solve the overall financial gap, which is estimated in the billions.
Going forward, negotiations between the government delegation and the IMF and World Bank in Washington will play a key role. It is there that further financing conditions will be determined.
Despite partial progress, tensions and disagreements remain in the parliament. Deputies have gone for temporary compromises to adopt necessary decisions, but the fundamental reasons for the crisis remain.
Let us remind you that on April 7, the Verkhovna Rada supported a law that provides for the extension of the military levy even after the state of war ends.
