Clean Sport Cup Held in Kyiv

Marking the global Play True Day, a team tournament named the Clean Sport Cup was held in Kyiv on April 17. The event, which also featured the appointment of ambassadors for the anti-doping movement, is part of a worldwide initiative launched by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to champion the principles of fair play. The campaign's central message is 'Play True. It starts with you.' Play True Day is an annual event that unites the global sporting community in a stand for integrity.

Event Participants and Significance

The gathering brought together leaders of sports institutions and prominent athletes, underscoring Ukraine's commitment to clean competition. Key attendees included:

  • Vadym Huttsait, President of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine and Olympic champion
  • Matvii Bidnyi, Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine
  • Sergii Popyk, Director of the National Anti-Doping Center
  • Andrii Rebrina, Director of the State Institution Agency for Mass Sports of Ukraine
Vadym Huttsait stated: 'Today, athletes, Olympians, and the entire great sports family of Ukraine have gathered here to jointly support the values of honest and clean sport. I thank the National Anti-Doping Center of Ukraine, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, the athletes, and everyone who works daily to ensure Ukrainian sport is clean, strong, and worthy.'

A highlight of the day was the official announcement of Clean Sport Ambassadors, who will now promote the values of honesty and fairness within Ukrainian athletics. This initiative reinforces the nation's ongoing fight against doping and its dedication to purity in competition.

The event highlights the commitment of Ukraine's sports bodies to upholding fair play principles, which are essential for maintaining trust in athletic contests. The appointment of these ambassadors creates a vital platform for promoting anti-doping values among young athletes and the public, a key step in strengthening the international reputation of Ukrainian sport.

In addition to promoting clean sport, Ukrainian athletes are also engaging in community initiatives. Recently, Olympic champions came together with students to celebrate Sports Day in Ukraine by planting trees, highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship alongside athletic integrity. This commitment to both fair play and community involvement reflects a broader dedication to fostering a positive sporting culture.
