The dollar exchange rate to the hryvnia set by the NBU on January 8 has once again set a record

The National Bank of Ukraine has set the official dollar exchange rate to the hryvnia for Thursday, January 8, at a level of 42.72 UAH per dollar. Over the course of a day, the hryvnia weakened by another 16 kopecks, and this figure became a new historical maximum. The previous record was only recorded the day before, on January 7, at a level of 42.56 UAH per dollar. This was reported by UNIAN.

According to the regulator's data, the hryvnia weakened against the euro as well. The official exchange rate of the European currency on January 8 is set at 49.92 UAH per euro, which is 12 kopecks more than the previous day. This is also a new historical maximum, as the previous record was set on December 31 at a level of 49.86 UAH per euro.

On the interbank currency market as of 16:00, the quotations were:

  • US dollar – 42.79/42.82 UAH;

  • euro – 50.02/50.03 UAH.

In “PrivatBank” on January 7, the dollar rate increased by 15 kopecks and amounted to 42.75 UAH, the euro rose by 25 kopecks to 50.15 UAH. You can sell the dollar at the bank for 42.15 UAH, euro for 49.15 UAH.

Director of the Center for Economic Strategy Hlib Vyshlinsky explained that the exchange rate fluctuations at the end and beginning of the year are predominantly seasonal. According to him, this dynamics repeats almost every year and is related to the budget cycle when the bulk of state payments occurs at the end of December.

It should be noted that financial expert Oleksiy Kozyrev predicts that the real level of inflation in Ukraine in 2026 will exceed the official forecast of the National Bank of Ukraine, which is 6.6%.
