New dollar exchange rate in Ukraine

The National Bank of Ukraine has set a new historical maximum for the official dollar exchange rate at 42.42 hryvnias as of January 6, 2026. This rate has become a record for the national currency, raising concerns among experts and the public regarding the future dynamics of the hryvnia.

Expert forecasts

Expert Oleksandr Okhrimenko notes that the devaluation of the hryvnia at the beginning of the year is a common phenomenon. He predicts that in the near future, the dollar exchange rate may decrease to 42.12-42.20 hryvnias per dollar. However, according to him, the increase in the dollar and euro rates does not indicate an inevitable further leap in the price of currency.

Meanwhile, the forecast for the dollar exchange rate by the end of 2026 is 43-45 hryvnias. Expert Danilo Monin has also expressed his assumptions, indicating that the NBU's reserves could amount to about 65 billion dollars by the end of 2026. Such forecasts indicate possible changes in the country's economic situation, which may affect the exchange rate of the hryvnia in the future.

These events are happening against the backdrop of a challenging economic situation in Ukraine, which continues to feel the repercussions of global financial challenges and internal problems. The rise in the dollar exchange rate may influence inflation and the cost of imported goods, which, in turn, will affect the livelihoods of the population. Monitoring the currency market and economic indicators will remain an important task for the government and the NBU amid uncertainty.
