Dangerous situation in Kolomyia
In Kolomyia, four children aged 8 to 11 became victims of a dangerous situation when they fell through the ice. They were saved by 18-year-old cadet Roman Plihtyak and 16-year-old student Yarema Knyshchuk, who not only called for rescuers but also provided first aid.
Heroism of youth
Roman Plihtyak, cadet of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, talked about how the operation took place:
“I had no right to panic. I am a future law enforcement officer. The scariest thing was to hear those cries and realize that there are many children, and the seconds are melting away.”
This demonstrates the serious approach of young people to saving the lives of children who found themselves in danger.
After successfully pulling the children out, they were handed over to the paramedics of the ambulance. The youngest boy was pulled out unconscious, but thanks to the prompt actions of Roman and Yarema, it was possible to prevent even more tragic consequences. This case highlights the importance of teaching young people the basics of safety and readiness to help in emergencies.
This event became a vivid example of heroism and selflessness of youth, which, despite their age, managed to display determination in a critical situation. The importance of first aid skills and knowledge of water safety has once again become relevant, especially during the winter period when the risk of falling through the ice increases. Such cases emphasize the need for systematic training of children and teenagers, which can save lives in emergency situations.
