More than 800 citizens of Russia have received a warning about expulsion from Latvia due to the lack of a Latvian language exam for obtaining EU permanent residency status. This decision was made as they did not submit the necessary documents on time.
“841 Russian citizen did not submit documents for EU residency status, so they must leave Latvia by November 30, 2025,” the migration service reported.
Those who received the warning but wish to remain and meet the requirements are allowed to submit a new application for a residence permit. The decision of the migration service was also supported by the Constitutional Court of Latvia, considering it in accordance with the legislation.
In total, this concerns more than 800 Russian citizens who will either have to leave Latvia or submit documents again to obtain the right to permanent residency in the European Union.
