Danyil Kovalchuk: A Life of Service and Sacrifice
On May 3, 2025, Ukrainian serviceman Danyil Kovalchuk passed away due to cardiac arrest. A devoted defender of his country, he had been actively fighting since 2014, when he joined the 3rd Company of the Azov unit. Over the course of his military career, Kovalchuk took part in the Shyrokyne operation in February 2015 and organized the ESA training course in Poland in 2016. His contributions to Ukraine's defense did not go unnoticed.
Born on December 24, 1994, in Kyiv, Kovalchuk was known not only as a soldier but also as a passionate fan of the Dynamo football club. He first entered the team's fan section in 2012. After leaving active service, he built a career in personal security and became an expert in practical shooting. This work remained a central part of his life until the start of the full-scale invasion. For context, Kovalchuk's story reflects the broader experience of many Ukrainians who shifted from civilian life to military defense after 2014.
The Civil Safety Project and the Morana Unit
In 2019, together with Maks "Rugby" Yalovtsov, Kovalchuk launched the Civil Safety project, and in 2020 he opened the Civil Safety Academy on the left bank of Kyiv. On February 24, 2022, in response to the war's outbreak, a volunteer unit was formed on the academy's base. During this period, Kovalchuk not only actively engaged in combat but also proved himself a capable leader by founding the Morana unit, which operated on the Bakhmut and Avdiivka fronts.

Today we remember Danyil Kovalchuk—a Dynamo fan, a legendary warrior who defended Ukraine from 2014, served in Azov, and created the Morana team within the 47th Mechanized Brigade.
