Princess Diana Letter Up for Sale

A handwritten letter from Princess Diana, composed during her honeymoon with King Charles III, is set to be auctioned in the United Kingdom. Dated September 27, 1981, the letter was written at Balmoral Castle in Scotland and addressed to her close friend Catherine Hanbury, whom Diana met while attending West Heath School. The auction, scheduled for July 7, will also feature a photograph of Diana from her school days and other memorabilia. The estimated value of the lots ranges from $5,000 to $8,000.

Honeymoon Reflections

In the letter, Princess Diana described her honeymoon, writing:

“We had a blissful honeymoon with endless sunshine and, thankfully, calm seas... now we’ll be in Scotland until the end of October, which is a great pleasure for us—I love being outdoors all day and I hate London!”
She also added:
“It’s wonderful to be married—I think I can safely say that after two months.”

The auction takes place just weeks before the 45th wedding anniversary of Charles and Diana. Notably, the day before their wedding, Charles reportedly stated he did not love Diana. Today, he serves as King of the United Kingdom, while Camilla Parker Bowles holds the position of Queen Consort. Written 47 years ago, this letter stands as another unique artifact capturing intimate moments from the life of one of the world’s most iconic women.

For collectors and fans of the British monarchy, the sale of Princess Diana’s letter represents a significant event. This artifact not only carries historical weight but also reveals the emotions and everyday experiences of Diana’s life. Timed to coincide with a milestone anniversary, the auction underscores the enduring fascination with the legacy of a princess who became a global icon.
