Close Call for Ukrainian President’s Aircraft

During the flight from Moldova to Oslo, the plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelenska narrowly avoided being hit by a drone. This alarming event was disclosed by Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in an interview with the Norwegian public broadcaster NRK. Støre did not provide further details or specify the source of this information.

Upon arrival in Oslo, President Zelensky met with Prime Minister Støre to discuss critical issues including:

  • strengthening Ukraine’s air defense capabilities,
  • preparations for the upcoming winter,
  • diplomatic strategies moving forward.

The two leaders also addressed the anti-ballistic missile program FREYJA as part of their discussions.

Winter Challenges and Global Support

On September 6, Zelensky held productive talks with Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner focusing on the challenges Ukraine faces during the winter months. The president highlighted that Ukraine’s anti-ballistic defense remains a significant vulnerability.

“The incident involving Zelensky’s plane is deeply dramatic and leaves a strong impression. The President faces constant threats but is resolute in his commitment to stay with his country,” said Jonas Gahr Støre.

Støre also emphasized that Zelensky continues to engage with world leaders to secure ongoing international support for Ukraine.

This close encounter underscores the extreme dangers confronting Ukraine’s leadership amid the ongoing conflict and highlights the crucial role of international assistance in safeguarding the nation. Ensuring the security of government officials is vital for maintaining stability during armed conflict. Moreover, this situation illustrates Norway’s readiness, alongside the global community, to back Ukraine’s pursuit of security and peace.
