Phone Call Between Lithuanian and Estonian Presidents
Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda held a telephone conversation with his Estonian counterpart, Alar Karis. During their discussion, the two leaders addressed several key issues:
- The ongoing situation in the Middle East;
- The safety of Lithuanian and Estonian citizens currently in the region;
- Organizing their safe return home.
Both sides agreed on the necessity for close coordination between Lithuanian and Estonian institutions to provide consular assistance to citizens facing difficulties. This coordination is particularly crucial given the current closure of airspace over parts of the Middle East, which has complicated evacuation efforts for several nations, including Germany.
Lithuania's Stance on Supporting Ukraine
President Nausėda emphasized a critical point, stating:
“The crisis in the Middle East must not divert the international community’s attention from Russia’s war against Ukraine.”This statement underscores the Baltic nations' firm position that support for Ukraine cannot wane, even as new global crises emerge. It reflects a broader regional concern about maintaining Western resolve.
These high-level diplomatic talks highlight the active and coordinated efforts of the Baltic states in responding to complex global security challenges. Their joint reaction to the Middle East crisis, coupled with a unified call to keep focus on Ukraine, demonstrates a shared commitment to regional security and international cooperation. In a period of global instability, such coordination and effective citizen protection remain top priorities for both Lithuania and Estonia.
