Simplification of the re-registration process for leasing cars
Starting January 2026, the process of re-registering leasing cars in Ukraine has been simplified for debtors who have fulfilled the terms of the agreement. Previously, these individuals were prohibited from obtaining ownership of a leasing car, but new rules allow drivers to re-register the car in their name provided they have made all necessary payments.
According to the new changes, debtors can register ownership if they have fulfilled the terms of the contract and made contributions. This exception is provided for in Article 7 of the Law of Ukraine 'On Financial Leasing'. To re-register a car, debtors need to prepare a package of documents, which include:
- financial leasing agreement;
- vehicle registration certificate;
- document confirming full compliance with obligations under the agreement;
- proof of payment for all leasing payments.
It is also worth mentioning that new appointment slips are generated daily at 6:00 AM, which will ensure convenience in the re-registration process. These changes are intended to ease the burden on debtors and promote greater transparency in the financial leasing sector in Ukraine.
Prospects for Change
The changes coming into effect in 2026 aim to improve conditions for debtors who adhere to their financial obligations and may stimulate the leasing market in Ukraine. The simplification of the re-registration procedure for cars can also reduce the number of legal disputes and foster increased trust between financial institutions and their clients. In the long run, this may positively impact the economic situation in the country, particularly in the areas of consumer lending and auto leasing.
