Official Appeals from the 'Lokomotiv-Kuban' Club

The basketball club 'Lokomotiv-Kuban' has sent official appeals to the Russian Basketball Federation (RBF), the International Basketball Federation (FIBA), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) regarding the departure of player Kirill Yelatontsev to the USA to participate in the NCAA student league. This appeal resulted from the player's unilateral leave from the team in November 2025.

Kirill Yelatontsev has a long-term contract with 'Lokomotiv-Kuban' that is valid until 2029. In 2023 and 2024, he was recognized as the best young player of the United League VTB. Despite these achievements, Yelatontsev has not played any official games for 'Lokomotiv-Kuban' in the current season.

It is noted that on November 7, 2025, he called an ambulance and was hospitalized, and just on November 10 received a draft notice from the military enlistment office.

Resonance in the Basketball Community

The situation surrounding Yelatontsev has caused significant resonance in the basketball community, and the club's appeal to FIBA and NCAA is a step aimed at resolving the issue of his departure and participation in student sports in the USA. It is important to note that this is not the first case where players leave their clubs to participate in other competitions, but the situation with Yelatontsev has its unique circumstances.

The 'Lokomotiv-Kuban' club continues to monitor the developments and hopes for a positive resolution of the situation, considering the interests of all parties involved.

This situation highlights the complexity of legal and ethical issues that can arise in the world of professional sports, especially in the context of international competitions and contractual obligations. The player's departure to the USA for participation in the NCAA may affect his career as well as the relationship between the club and the player. It is essential for all parties to find a compromise that will allow Yelatontsev's professional career to be preserved and avoid potential conflicts in the future.
