Polish airports are strengthening their positions as key departure points for Ukrainians, while European low-cost carriers Ryanair and Wizz Air have announced the launch of new routes and the expansion of their bases. This opens up more budget routes and simplifies travel to Europe. VisitUkraine reported on this here.

Ryanair launches new routes from Gdansk

Ryanair is significantly increasing its presence in Gdansk: by summer 2026, it will have its sixth aircraft based there. This will allow for the expansion of its network to 43 destinations and offer over 2.3 million seats.

The airline will add flights to popular tourist cities:

  • Rome

  • Dubrovnik

  • Tirana

  • Palermo

  • Bucharest.

Additionally, the frequency of existing routes will increase. For Ukrainians who often choose Polish airports as convenient hubs, this means a wider selection and better fares.

Wizz Air opens a base at Warsaw-Modlin airport

From December 1, 2025, Wizz Air officially launched a new operational base at Modlin. Two Airbus A321neo aircraft are based here, and the schedule has been supplemented with 11 direct flights to popular European cities:

  • Athens

  • Barcelona

  • Bergamo

  • Bergen

  • Malta

  • Paphos

  • Sofia

  • Brindisi

  • Alghero

  • Palermo

  • Chisinau.

After opening the base, Wizz Air's route map in Poland exceeded 200 destinations, and from Modlin, the carrier plans to serve over 500 thousand passengers a year.

Polish airports remain the main alternative for Ukrainians looking for affordable flights to the EU due to the war and limited aviation movements in Ukraine. The expansion of Ryanair and Wizz Air routes significantly increases travel opportunities in 2025-2026.

Earlier, we reported that Ryanair will close flights to several French cities.
