Ukrainian canoeist Liudmyla Luzan has secured her first medal at the 2026 European Championships, currently underway in Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal. She claimed the gold in the women's C1 200-meter event, crossing the finish line with a time of 43.710 seconds. This victory marks her fifth career gold at the continental championship level.

In the final race, the Ukrainian delivered an outstanding performance, finishing more than 1.7 seconds ahead of her closest rival, Italy's Olimpia Della Giustina, who clocked 45.439 seconds. Poland's Dorota Borowska took the bronze with a time of 45.504 seconds.

With this win, Luzan's total European Championship medal count now stands at 13. She still has the opportunity to compete for four more medals at Euro 2026. On Saturday, June 13, she will race in the C2 200-meter event and the mixed C4 500-meter event.
